How to Delete Messages Chat History On Mac OS X

Users who are using the Messages app in Mountain Lion already know that there is no way to delete the chat history in the Messages app from the chat window. The best that can be done is to perform ‘Clear Transcript’, but even that is not good enough as the Messages are reopened the transcript reapper just as before. This appears to be a bug, since the Messages app for Mac is still in its early beta. In this article we will explain how to delete Messages chat history on Mac OS X.
How to Delete Messages Chat History on Mac OS X
In order to delete Messages chat history on Mac OS X, perform the following steps:
- Open the Finder window and go to ‘Documents’.

- You will be able to find a ‘iChats’ folder within the Documents folder. The iChats folder is the folder that contains all your chat transcripts within subfolders labeled with dates.

- Browse to the folder that you are interested in and delete your desired files. This will completely delete your chat history.

- Now as a final step, empty your recycle bin and the chat history would be permanently deleted.
That was all that you had to do in order to delete Messages chat history on Mac OS X.
