How To Unlock iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 Running iOS 5 with UltraSn0w

The update of UltraSn0w unlock for iOS 5 has been released by iPhone Dev Team as promised. You can now unlock iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS with unlockable basebands running iOS 5.

The current version of Ultrasn0w 1.2.4 supports the following basebands on iPhone 3GS:

  • 4.26.08
  • 05.11.07
  • 05.12.01
  • 05.13.04
  • 06.15.00 and
  • 01.59.00 on iPhone 4

If you are running any of the above mentioned basebands, you can use UltraSn0w to unlock your device without any hesitation. UltraSn0w can work with these basebands but it doesn’t add any new baseband to the compatibility list.

If you want to update your device to iOS 5 without updating your baseband, and you are running any of the above mentioned basebands, you can easily update to iOS 5 by following our  RedSnOw tutorial for Mac, or our Sn0wBreeze tutorial for Windows. It is very important to stick to the methods mentioned in our tutorials to keep your baseband unlockable.

How To Unlock iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 Running iOS 5 with UltraSn0w

Now, here are few simple steps to unlock your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS with UltraSn0w 1.2.4.

  1. Required baseband: Check from the above mentioned list that if your device is running a baseband from the list. Your device must have a compatible baseband from the list to proceed further.
  2. Update to iOS 5: Now upgrade your device to iOS 5 using our RedSnOw baseband preservation tutorial or SnowBreeze baseband preservation tutorial.
  3. Download Ultrasn0w 1.2.4: Go to Cydia on your device and download UltraSn0w 1.2.4 (Gevey SIM users, see this Gevey SIM post).
  4. Already Unlocked: You can verify your unlock by using the SIM other than your carrier SIM.

Again, the release of Ultrassn0w 1.2.4 is without any additional basebands to the compatibility list, so if your device is not running any of the above mentioned basebands, you cannot unlock your device using Ultrasn0w 1.2.4.
